NaNoWriMo 2021 : Week 2

We’re already halfway through this year’s NaNoWriMo ! How does time pass by so quickly, but at the same time… very slowly ?

I won’t deny that this second week has been much harder than the first one for me. I’m usually good at starting things, but keeping up is another story. I’m also not the kind of writer who usually write everyday, so it’s starting to get a bit stressful, but I try not to fret too much when I only manage to write a few hundred words a day.

NaNoWriMo is a battle against yourself, a way to push through everything that usually holds you back. And I love that, I truly love this. I’m already quite proud of what I’ve done, I’ve finally got over my writer’s block, so I’m very happy about it. On the other hand… I also love the fact that this is a challenge, and not something I would do all year around hahaha.

I found something nice about the official website of NaNoWriMo. I added all my current projects, and so I can see how many words I’ve written so far on the overall. And this is how I discovered that this year, I’ve written more than 100,000 words ! In English, which is not my native language. I’ve had this feeling before starting NaNoWriMo that I didn’t do enough this year, that I could have written more… But oh well, now I feel great. I feel like I did great ! So thank you NaNoWriMo for that as well haha. When you’re working on several projects, you kind of know where you’re at for each project, but it’s true that you don’t always pay attention to how much you’ve done on the overall. So yay ! I hope I will be able to publish one of my current projects in 2022 🙂 !

I’ve seen fellow writers who were already done with their 50,000 words challenge and wow, I have to say, it is quite impressive. I’m happy for them, and hope it will allow them to move forward and get closer to finishing/publishing a book. I know that editing can take just as much time (oh, how much I hate editing haha) as writing the first draft, but I find it so great that everyone is working hard towards their dreams, one step at a time. The numbers don’t count, it’s the efforts we make that do count.

To be honest, when I started NaNoWriMo, I thought that if I managed to write 20,000 words, it would already be incredible. Well, now it’s done, and I still have half of the month left, so… Whether I manage to reach 50,000 words or not, I’m very proud already. I’ve been struggling a little with my mental health these days, so I just hope I can keep writing, no matter the amount of words.

What about you ? What were your goals for NaNoWriMo ? How is it going ? 🙂 Stay strong ! You can do it !

Marie.

  1. First, I’m sending you good energies for your mental health, take care ❤ Secondly, I have never reached the editing part since I never finished a draft so I have to say I'm quite scared about this haha because I write in a whole big messy way, I will probable have tons of editing to make… And thirdly, it's normal to have low energy for the second week, I had it too and it was the same the previous years also. Things will get slowly back together 🙂

  2. Thank you ❤ It is getting better, thankfully. Ooh I see ! Well I’ve never finished a draft for a novel either so I can relate haha and honestly, the editing experience depends of people so… I hate it, some love it. I hope it will be okay for you haha. Wish you all the best to finish a first draft this time 🙂 !! Oh I see, thanks for telling me ~
