June is slowly coming to an end, and it means that we’re almost halfway through the year. As I was adding the last book I’ve read on GoodReads, I couldn’t help but take a look at the Reading Challenge.
For those who don’t know about it, the website GoodReads allows you to set a reading goal for the year, called GoodReads Reading Challenge. Keeping your account updated throughout the year will allow you to know easily how many books you’ve read at the end of the year (among other statistics they will provide you with).
I participated for the first time last year, and I have to say that it did motivated me to read more. For the first time in forever, I read 20 books in a year. For 2022, I set the goal on 40 books, and for now I’m at 33, which is unbelievable to me. Well, I did cheat a little – I discovered that you also had mangas on GoodReads, so yes among the 33 books I’ve read, there are around 15 mangas. But still, reading is reading, even if you read shorter pieces. Can you imagine if we could add the fanfics we read on AO3, haha ? I’d be curious to know how many words/books it would amount to.
During these first six months of the year, I’ve realized that I like having short books with me as I travel. I love my e-reader, but it also feels nice to have a real book in my hands when I’m taking the train for example. I already spend a lot of time on my phone, so paper makes me feel like I’m truly disconnecting from the world, in order to focus on the world of the book.
So far, the book that I’ve loved reading the most this year is The Song of Achilles, by Madeline Miller.
What about you ? Are you participating to the GoodReads Reading Challenge this year ? Which goal did you set ? How is it going ?
I hope you all have a lovely day, and see you next Wednesday !
Marie.
PS : A little update regarding my health. I didn’t go through surgery in the end, yay ! I’m still recovering, but I’m feeling much better. 🙂
